HURRICANE FLORENCE UPDATE #1 (9-10-2018)

S.C. GOVERNOR HENRY McMASTER ORDERS EVACUATION OF ALL THREE COASTAL ZONES EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 11 AT 12:00 NOON

Town of Pawleys Island, SC – September 10, 2018 – S.C. Governor Henry McMaster has ordered evacuation of all three coastal zones and the closure of all schools and state offices in South Carolina’s coastal counties effective Tuesday, September 11, at 12:00 p.m.

During his September 10, 2:30 p.m. press conference, Governor McMaster said lane reversals on several highways will begin 12 p.m. Tuesday. Residents should leave early if possible. Evacuation routes can be found here: http://www.scdot.org/getting/evacuation.aspx

The following highways will be reversed:

— U.S. 501 leaving Myrtle Beach
— Interstate 26 from Charleston to Columbia — Highways 278 and 21 in Beaufort County

Access to the Town of Pawleys Island will be restricted beginning Wednesday afternoon. Hurricane Florence is still expected to make landfall near the NC/SC border, however Pawleys Island is still within the cone of uncertainty. At a minimum, Pawleys Island will experience tropical storm force winds, heavy rain, flooding, rip currents and coastal erosion.
