HURRICANE ISAIAS UPDATE #3

HURRICANE ISAIAS UPDATE #3

AUGUST 3, 2020 @ 3:00PM

Isaias is forecasted to regain hurricane strength before projected landfall somewhere around the South Carolina/North Carolina border.  The current forecast indicates our area will likely experience sustained winds of 50-70 mph, with maximum gusts of 60-85 mph.  Rainfall estimates could be as high as 4” – 6”,  and a surge of 3’-5’ is possible.  The storm is expected to move through our area this evening and exit quickly by early Tuesday morning.

Georgetown County is currently under a Hurricane Warning, Storm Surge Watch and Flash Flood Watch. Storm surge will likely be an issue and inundation could result in street flooding and beach erosion, as well as damage to beach accesses and creek docks.

Pawleys Island Town Hall was CLOSED at 2:00 pm on Monday. At this time, town offices are expected to reopen at 8:30 am on Tuesday. If conditions warrant, any changes to the town’s operating hours will be posted on the town’s website and social media channels.

Residents, property owners and visitors should continue to monitor local media outlets for updates on Hurricane Isaias. Forecasts are updated regularly on the NHC website at www.hurricanes.gov.
