HURRICANE FLORENCE UPDATE #8 (9-15-2018)

The island is in great shape and so far we’ve experienced minimal to no damages, including zero dune erosion. We’ve benefited by being on the south side of the storm, but winds have now shifted onshore and the concern is storm surge and possible coastal erosion at high tide today.

The Town remains under a mandatory evacuation as ordered by the Governor, and the threat still remains for high winds and storm surge. Property owners and residents will be allowed to return to the island as soon as it’s deemed safe to do so, and the Governor lifts the evacuation order. We will release an update later today following high tide.
